The Sabine River starts at Lake Tawakoni, which is fed by West Caddo Creek, Cowleech Fork of the Sabine River and the West Fork of the Sabine River, and runs southeast to the Texas-Louisianna boarder where it cuts south to Port Arthur and meets the gulf. The Sabine River Authority operates ten campgrounds at points along the river.
